Definitions - Radio Controlled Hobbies

As a newcomer to the world of radio controlled hobbies, many habitancy are confused with the abbreviations that are used to divulge products. Here's a guide that will help you understand the terms that are often used. Radio Control, Radio Controlled, often abbreviated R/C or Rc:

Is naturally the use of radio signals to operate a device. Radio transmitters send a signal on a definite frequency to an Rc airplane, Rc helicopter, Rc boat Rc truck or Rc car. The receiving gismo accepts the same frequency signal from the transmitter to operate the device. Rc is used every day by industry, military, medical and law enforcement.

RC Helicopter

Ready to fly, ready-to-fly or Rtf:

Refers to a installation pre-assembled Rc plane, Rc airplane or Rc helicopter that is essentially ready to fly right from the box. Regularly the assembly is very minimal, (great for guys like me with two left thumbs) and once the battery is expensed you are ready to fly.

Ready to run, ready-to-run, Rtr:

Is used to define a radio controlled product that does not fly but runs on land or water. Rc cars, buggies, boats, trucks, tanks and hovercraft (I still haven't decided whether a hovercraft flies or runs) fall into this category. These items are installation pre-assembled with minute or no assembly required. An Rtr like an Rtf is easy to get started, just fee and go.

2-Channel, 3-Channel, and 4-Channel:

The radio or transmitter sends signals to the receiver settled in the Rc item. Each channel controls one function. For example, in a 2-channel plane, one channel would operate the motor speed, and someone else channel would operate the rudder. A 3-channel Rc airplan e would operate the motor, rudder and elevator surfaces. A 4-channel plane would have the same controls as a 3-channel plane with an added channel to operate the aileron surfaces. An Rc car, Rc buggy, Rc truck or Rc tank is controlled in a similar fashion. One channel controls the Rc car speed, while someone else controls forward and reverse and a third channel would operate left and right motion.

As you can see, it isn't that complicated. It just takes a minute time to get acquainted with the terminology we so easily banter about, forgetting that not everyone is well-known with the terms. So whether you are concerned in Rc cars, Rc tanks, Rc planes, Rc helicopters, Rc hovercraft or Rc boats the world of radio controlled hobbies has the collection and the products to get you on the road to fun and excitement!

Dead Cat turned into Remote Controlled Helicopter by Dutch Artist - Orvillecopter

Dead Cat turned into Remote Controlled Helicopter by Dutch Artist - Orvillecopter Video Clips. Duration : 1.77 Mins.

There's something that doesn't just seem quite right about stuffing a dead cat and turning it into a remote-controlled flying helicopter. Dutch artist Bart Jansen has done just that and debuted his creation, the "Orvillecopter", at the KunstRai ArtFair in Amsterdam at the weekend. Jansen describes the "Orvillecopter" - so named because the cat used was called Orville - as "half cat, half machine". Orville had belonged to Jansen and died after he was hit by a car. "After a period of mourning, he received his propellers posthumously," Jansen said. A video posted to YouTube shows the flying feline slowly hover a few meters in the air in a park, it's body permanently spread eagle with propellers on its front paws. Jansen teamed up with radio control helicopter expert Arjen Beltman after having a taxidermist preserve the pussy cat The "Orvillecopter" doesn't fly quite right, however, a glitch Jansen hopes to fix. ''He will receive more powerful engines and larger props for his birthday,'' Jansen said, adding that he hoped the upgrades will allow for a more ''steady flight.''

Radio Controlled Helicopters - What's the disagreement between 2 Channels, 3, 4, 5 and 6 Channels?

All radio controlled helicopter enthusiasts will tell you that flying Rc helicopters is the most curious and thrilling of all Rc models. Cars, trucks, tanks, boats and robots are all exiguous to forward/backward and left/right movement but radio controlled helicopters can have full technicolor, surround-sound,3D maneuverability. The only limitation to your exhilaration and flying satisfaction is your skill, the space ready and the sophistication of your Rc helicopter model.

So what is it exactly that enables your heli to accomplish complex aerial acrobatics?

RC Helicopter

In short, it's the whole of channels that can be controlled by you - the more you have, the greater the maneuverability of your Rc helicopter.

But don't be fooled into thinking that more is better. Flying a model helicopter is every bit as complex and skillful as the flying the real thing. Just because your heli is smaller in scale doesn't mean that the laws of aerodynamics change! To accomplish prosperous flight, all criteria remain the same. However, flying a model does have the benefit of being able to start with a basic set of controls and work your way upward to the Full Monty and this is achieved by mastering an expanding whole of channels.

But first, you will need to understand that each channel controls a separate servo mechanism in your model. And for those of us who find it helpful to understand how a thing works, it's beneficial to know that a servo is a mechanical device that controls the movement of an element by 'pushing' it with a lever. You can control the degree of 'push' this lever exerts on a servo from the controls on your transmitter handset. The greater the servo's 'push' the bigger the resulting movement of the element it is acting on. So, to move the angle of the tail rotor, for example, you need a channel to control the tail servo.

So, as each conveyable element on an Rc helicopter requires its own servo, you will also need an extra channel for each one. By expanding your quality to fine-tune the interaction of each servo via the channel controls on your handset, you will be able to yield an increasingly wide range of aerial movements for your radio controlled helicopter.

So here's a basic list of the differences in the middle of the numbers of channels on a radio controlled helicopter:

2 Channels furnish you with the quality to control two servo mechanisms, giving you the quality to control movement up and down (rotor blade speed) & left and right, (rear rotor, directional controls). 3 channels give you the two movement controls, above, but with the supplementary control of curious backwards and forwards (cyclic control). 4 channels give control over the throttle, elevator, aileron, rudder, improving on the maneuverability of the above, fixed pitch controls. 5 channels are rarely found, giving way to the more common 6 channel model. These supplementary channels give skilled flyers the quality to accomplish true, 3D aerial movements by adding public pitch and gyro gain control into the mix.

It can all get very complicated!

So which is the best choice for you? Well, if you are just starting out with radio controlled helicopters, stick to the 2 channel models at first. Learn to expert the basic movements first before progressing straight through the ranks, right up to the impressive but curious 6 channel models. Anything you decide, have fun with your Rc helicopter, fly safely and enjoy improving your flying skills!

Getting Started with Radio Controlled Helicopters

Beginning a new hobby is a great adventure for anyone. It is like facing open and blue skies with possibilities for fun and adventure. If you are inspecting determined hobbies, you might want to think about flying model planes or helicopters. If you have this in mind, you can think about some things to help you in getting started with radio controlled helicopters. By knowing how to start, you will be able to move into more involved models and movements later on.

One of the most foremost things that most hobby flyers will say is that when you are getting started with radio controlled helicopters, you want to make sure that you can control everything. This means beginning with some basic helicopter structures that are easier to handle. By doing this, you can be sure to adapt to the necessities of flying without ruining your first model. If you aren't even sure where to start, you can look at training kits that might come with the distinct models to help you learn your new craft.

RC Helicopter

The most foremost part of any beginner helicopter is the quality to control the flying of the helicopter. Of course, this will mean beginning slow, then building up to more involved abilities. For many, this may mean beginning with a helicopter to fly indoors. This will certify that you don't break the model and can get used to how it works. The hardest part of beginning with any helicopter is in maintaining the control of how the flight is performing. Before piquant into the great outdoors, you will want to experiment with this to make sure that you can control what the helicopter is able to do. This will also prevent any crashing that may occur if you are exterior and trying more involved stunts.

Another part of getting started with radio controlled helicopters is in the way that the helicopter is structured. Many of the more industrialized helicopters will have a more involved structure in order to achieve more tasks. However, a beginning structure will begin with a double oar coaxial structure. While this makes it so that it won't move as fast, it will also give you the quality to have a trustworthy helicopter as you maneuver it around for practice.

Of course, with any of the beginning helicopters, they will also have the quality to do more than you think. After you get used to the helicopter, you can also learn how to move it in distinct ways and maximize its capacities to work for you as a model. This is foremost to keep in mind while you are finding at the distinct possibilities for your helicopters.

Getting started with radio controlled helicopters will mean finding the best of the bunch for your needs. There are any possibilities for you in the way of models that are designed specifically for beginners. Following easy techniques before piquant into more involved models is the best way to begin. By finding at the beginning possibilities, you can get ready for higher and better take offs.

Radio Controlled Helicopters For Beginners - Indoor Rc Helicopter Hazards

When you start your beginner Rc helicopter training, there are a estimate of things you need to keep in mind. Radio controlled helicopters for beginners are ordinarily easier to specialist than the more developed models, but quite a few things can go wrong when you do your first indoor training flights.

A mostly indoor Rc helicopter such as the Nine Eagles Swordfish is a very stable coaxial machine, and a good introduction to the hobby, but you still need to look out for the following potential problems:

RC Helicopter

1. The Wall Effect

Indoor helicopter flying has its hazards, and one of the first you will contact in a confined space such as your living room is air turbulence. Even relatively small Rc helicopters can originate a lot of turbulence from the dual main rotors. Air is pushed down, and then out to the sides, and from there on towards the nearest wall or furniture, from where it will bounce back again in discrete directions.

If you take off cautiously into a low level tail-in hover, by the time you have just stabilized the aircraft and feeling good about your achievement, the first "side-wash" will probably hit the heli and try to force it to the side. The biggest corollary will be felt in the tail which will start turning away from the air pressure, and if you don't spoton it in time, you can truly come to be disorientated when you finally start reacting, as the heli could now be facing you from the side.

Luckily the perfect yaw (sideways movement) dampening gyros even in most radio controlled helicopters for beginners should counter and decelerate this rotation of the tail so that you will soon learn to spoton it in time.

2. The Space Race

This problem may seem self-evident, but it is worth mentioning how it can influence your first indoor training sessions. The fact that I was learning within a very small family room to take off, hover and get comfortable with the cyclic controls for basic forwards, backwards and sideways movement, made me cautious right from the start, as I knew there was very "little room" for error!

It so happens that I had no real crashes while that time, just a few more or less uncontrolled landings, and the rotors brushed discrete pieces of furniture in the process, but always after I had already cut power.

Soon I was filling the whole cubic area of that room, refining my operate of my Nine Eagles Swordfish, all the while true and wary of sudden side, down or up-washes of turbulent air trying to destroy my safety record!

Then, very cautiously, I started practising side-on hovers. The confined space was now becoming even more of a challenge, as I soon found these hovers, and the disorientation one tries to overcome, were stacking the odds against me. Any way I pushed on and finally got comfortable sufficient to very, very considered try out some nose-in hovers (the controls by now the opposite from where I started, and often, dangerously, giving "pause to though").

After a few such hovers, just as I felt I was starting to get instinctive operate over the heli, I made one of those "little" over-corrections, now in a nose-in hover, and this time I wasn't so lucky. No major crash resulted, but the rotor clipped a chair on the far side of the room when I slipped the craft too far back, and I had to settle for my first fix (replacing the affected blade with the spare that came in the box).

At that point I decided to find a sports hall, or wait for calm days to continue practising - no more indoors at home for me. The bottom line: for uncomplicated basic training, where disorientation isn't yet such a big problem (tail-in maneuvers) a confined space is acceptable, but for further training it just isn't worth the risk.

3. Safe as Houses?

Lastly on a point of safety: If you do your basic training indoors at home, often with other family members or visitors nearby, keep in mind that these spinning rotors are truly quite dangerous. The blade tips move at great speeds, and at the same time you are still learning to operate where that lethal blade goes! wee kids may get over-excited by your extraordinary flying feats and inadvertently run over the path of your indoor Rc helicopter!
